Olympic Industries in Commerce, California, thanks to David and Eric Lichtbach, has supported a variety of special projects for the youth of America.  One that is close to their hearts emanates from Schurr High School’s Metal Shop.  For thirty one years, Mr. Jacob Torosian has taught metal shop at Schurr High School in Montebello, California.  His students learn a variety of welding practices, metal cutting, forming and finishing processes.  The Lichtbach brothers are alumnus of Schurr High School.  David has volunteered time and materials to Schurr to help develop and enhance the metal shop program at Schurr.

Their efforts converged when the Montebello Rotary Club offered to sponsor a design competition for high school students.  The designs you see here were presented to the public at an event held by the Montebello Rotary Club last year that was put together by Anne Rich of the Montebello Unified School District.

Olympic is especially proud of the small role that it played in helping three of Mr. Torosian’s senior students, Alex Baez, Steven Contreras and Nohe Zarco, achieve a level of excellence unexpected from high school students.  The judges were so impressed with the designs and workmanship of the three students that they unanimously decided that all three finalists would receive first place trophies and given a cash prize of $225.00 each. 

These unique designs are, as it would be said in the design world, HOT!!!

We congratulate Nohe, Steve and Alex, on achieving excellence in their efforts.  We know it was not easy and it took more time and effort than initially expected but as you can see, the results speak for themselves.
